About The Bill Walton Show

The Bill Walton Show is a Washington, D.C.-based podcast and media operation founded by Bill Walton, a former NYSE-listed company CEO and longtime figure in finance, private equity, nonprofit leadership, and policy. The show has produced over 275 episodes covering economics, culture, and public policy, distributing across Rumble, YouTube, Spotify, and eight additional audio platforms. With a network of 5,000+ high-value contacts built across decades of Wall Street, nonprofit boards, and political engagement, the show needed a relationship intelligence system capable of supporting guest sourcing, LP and donor introductions, and strategic matchmaking at scale.

The Challenge

Bill Walton was running his entire contact network out of Microsoft Outlook, with no CRM, no tagging system, and no enrichment layer. A contact database that had once been larger had been stripped of all tags and context during a team transition years earlier. The current Outlook database held 2,000 to 3,000 contacts with no classification, no relationship history beyond email threads, and no way to answer questions like: who in the network works in energy policy, who has been a guest, who might be a good introduction for a specific topic.

Karin Groh, the show's producer and creative lead, was managing guest outreach, booking, and follow-up manually. The team needed a tool that could house the full network, enrich contacts automatically, and eventually connect to Claude so that questions like "who in the CRM would be a strong guest on the future of manufacturing" could be answered in seconds.

Our Approach

Novlini delivered the setup over two weeks, focusing on data model design, Outlook migration, enrichment tooling, and Claude MCP integration.

Data Model

The workspace was designed around relationship intelligence rather than a sales funnel. Contacts are structured around the categories Bill works with: podcast guests, potential guests, policy and nonprofit leaders, financial contacts, media contacts, and donors or introduction targets. A tagging system was built to classify contacts by expertise, sector, relationship type, and guest history, so the network can be filtered and queried meaningfully.

Outlook Migration

Attio's native Outlook integration was connected to pull existing contacts into the workspace automatically. Historical contacts were imported and tagged by category based on available signals, with a process established for the team to enrich and reclassify records as they are used.

Data Enrichment

Clay was connected to Attio to enable enrichment on demand. When a new contact enters the system, the team can trigger an enrichment to pull LinkedIn profile, job title, sector, and recent activity, reducing the manual work of profiling contacts and making the network searchable by professional category.

Apollo was also configured for targeted outreach, enabling the team to identify new contacts in specific sectors or roles and import them into Attio for outreach campaigns.

Claude MCP Integration

Claude was connected to Attio via MCP so the team can query the CRM in natural language. Bill can ask Claude who in the network has published recently on a given topic, who would be a strong guest for a particular episode, or who in the CRM to introduce to a specific donor or policy contact, with Claude pulling live data from Attio to answer.

Technology Stack

  • Attio - relationship CRM, contact database, network intelligence (source of truth)

  • Outlook - email sync and contact migration, native Attio integration

  • Clay - contact enrichment, on-demand profiling

  • Apollo - outreach list building and new contact sourcing

  • Claude MCP - natural language querying of the CRM network

The Results

The Bill Walton Show went from an untagged Outlook contact list to a structured relationship intelligence system with enrichment, AI querying, and multi-channel outreach capability.

  • Network centralized - 5,000+ contacts moving from Outlook into a structured, tagged CRM for the first time

  • Enrichment on demand - any contact in Attio can be enriched with LinkedIn, sector, and job title data via Clay without leaving the CRM

  • Claude MCP live - the team can query the network in natural language and get answers grounded in real CRM data

  • Guest sourcing accelerated - finding the right expert for a given episode topic is now a query rather than a manual search through email history

  • Outreach infrastructure ready - Apollo connected for expanding the network into new sectors and contact types

"Novlini was outstanding to work with. The expertise, communication and availability of the team was excellent. They understood our exact needs and designed a perfect solution for our business."

Why It Matters

For a high-network individual operating across finance, policy, media, and philanthropy, a CRM is not a sales tool. It is a memory system. The ability to answer, in seconds, who in a network of 5,000 people works in energy research, has been a guest before, and is based in Washington, is what makes the difference between an introduction that happens and one that does not.

Connecting that system to Claude means the network becomes queryable in the same way one would ask a well-briefed assistant. The value compounds as more contacts are enriched and more interaction history accumulates in the system.
